Meeting of vice foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Italy was held in Rome

A meeting was held in Rome between Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Akhmet Gurbanov and Deputy Foreign Minister of Italy Edmondo Cirielli. The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, April 9, was a continuation of the dialogue that began during the conference of ministers of Italy and Central Asian countries, and was dedicated to deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in a number of strategically important sectors.

In particular, the parties discussed in detail the possibilities of interaction in such key areas as energy, water resources, cultural and inter-university cooperation.

Turkmenistan, which ranks fourth in the world in terms of natural gas reserves, is an important partner for Italy in the energy sector. Issues of rational use of water resources are also of mutual interest in the context of regional cooperation, the Italian Foreign Ministry noted.

Cirielli also visited Turkmenistan in January 2025. At that time, he met with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov and Deputy Minister Gurbanov. This demonstrates the consistent development of bilateral dialogue at a high level.

"Italy and Turkmenistan are friendly countries united by long-standing and deep ties. Italy, including within the framework of the external relations of the European Union, considers Turkmenistan as a fundamental part of its strategy in Central Asia, an increasingly strategic region as a bridge between Europe and Asia," Deputy Minister Cirielli emphasized.

This meeting confirmed the mutual desire of Turkmenistan and Italy to further develop multifaceted cooperation that meets the interests of both countries and contributes to strengthening stability and prosperity in the region.
