Thailand changes entry rules for tourists

Thai authorities have announced the reinstatement of the mandatory TM6 immigration form for foreign tourists entering the country. The new requirement will take effect on May 1, 2025.

According to the Bangkok Post, citing Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the TM6 form will be mandatory for all foreign travelers, regardless of the mode of transport—air, land, or sea. Notably, the form will be free of charge and available for online submission.

The TM6 form serves as an immigration entry and exit card for Thailand. Tourists will need to provide their passport details, travel information (such as purpose of visit and place of stay), and contact details.

Previously, Thailand abolished the TM6 requirement for air travelers in July 2022. Additionally, from April 15 to October 15, 2024, authorities temporarily suspended the form for 16 land and sea border checkpoints. The decision to reinstate the TM6 form replaces earlier plans to introduce an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system for citizens of visa-exempt countries.
