Lukashenko said that he is increasingly convinced of the need for a second NPP

The republic is recording a growing need for electricity both in the industrial sector and among citizens. In particular, the fleet of electric vehicles is constantly increasing. This was reported by the BelTA agency.

The first Belarusian NPP, located near the city of Ostrovets in the Grodno region, was built according to the standard Russian project "AES-2006". The general contractor was the company "Atomstroyexport" (part of the state corporation "Rosatom"). Earlier it was reported that the Belarusian authorities are working on the issue of building a second NPP in the country.

Lukashenko has already stated that he is a supporter of the construction of a second nuclear power plant in the republic. He also outlined a possible location for the new NPP, not ruling out that it could appear in the area east of Mogilev. According to him, the source of its financing could be saved loan funds. Director General of the Rosatom Corporation, Alexey Likhachev, stated that the Russian side is ready to build a second nuclear power plant in Belarus if necessary.
