The meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS took place in Moscow
08.10.2024 | 22:15 |On October 8, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov participated in the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, which took place in Moscow at the Grand Kremlin Palace, chaired by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
The meeting was also attended by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Secretary General of the CIS Sergey Lebedev.
In a narrow format, the heads of state exchanged views on current issues of interaction within the Commonwealth of Independent States and adopted a decision on the chairmanship of the CIS in 2025 - it will pass to the Republic of Tajikistan. The next scheduled meeting of the Council of Heads of State of CIS will be held on 10 October 2025 in Dushanbe.
The heads of state began their work in a broad format by considering and adopting the Address to the peoples of the CIS countries and the world community in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. It was presented by President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
Valentina Matvienko, Chairperson of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States, briefed the summit participants on the IPA's activities to strengthen integration cooperation.
The participants of the CIS summit signed a decision to declare the cultural capital of the Commonwealth as follows: the city of Lachin, Azerbaijan, in 2025; the city of Meghri, Armenia, in 2026; and the city of Molodechno, Belarus, in 2027.
Other joint documents were also adopted. By decision of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, the year 2027 has been declared the Year of Legal Education in the Commonwealth.
The heads of the CIS member states adopted a statement on the development of cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence for civilian purposes, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reported.
