The works of Magtymguly Fragi – in the mouths of travelers for centuries

In the era of the Renaissance of the new era of the powerful state, special attention is paid to the study of world-famous literary monuments of the Turkmen people.

The year “The Fount of the Mind of Magtymguly Fragi” is the embodiment of respect for the study of the work of the great thinker and classical poet Magtymguly Fragi.

Among the people who studied the work of Magtymguly, the names of the Polish traveler Alexander Chodzko-Boreyko and the Hungarian orientalist Arminius Vamberi can be mentioned.

Polish explorer and writer Alexander Chodzko-Boreyko, who lived from 1804 to 1891, traveled through Central Asia. He collected the poems of Magtymguly Fragi, Mammetveli Kemine, and later translated them into English in his book “Specimens of popular Persian poetry” (Samples of popular Persian poetry). The book was published in London. It presents a short biography of Magtymguly Fragi and poems in English.

Arminius Vamberi (1832-1913) is also one of those who made a worthy contribution to the collection and study of the literary heritage of Magtymguly Fragi. In the second half of the 19th century, he traveled a lot throughout Central Asia, especially Turkmen soil.

The traveler, scientist, orientalist and Turkologist Arminius Vamberi collected everything he saw and heard in his book “Travel to Central Asia,” published in 1863. In his book, he wrote: “The collection of Magtymguly’s poems is very interesting. In it, on the one hand, we see a pure example of the Turkmen language, on the other hand, he talks in detail about things that are rarely found in the works of other eastern poets.

In 1879, Arminius Vamberi published an article in the collection of the German Oriental Society in Leipzig on the Turkmen language, literature, life, creativity and worldview of Magtymguly Fragi entitled “Turkmen language and collection of Magtymguly.”

The above-mentioned travel scientists made a great contribution to the development of mutual scientific and cultural ties between East and West.
