Turkmenistan junior chess team is in the second place in Asia

On the day when the world chess champion was determined, the junior national team of Turkmenistan in this sport also scored a successful result.
The tandem of Amanmuhammet Hommadov and Lala Shohradova took a worthy second place at the official Asian Championship that ended today in chess among mixed teams-twos in the category up to 18 years. The competition, which brought together 42 participants from 21 countries of the continent, was held online on April 28-30.

Only one point behind the finishing first team of Indonesia, the Turkmen duo scored 15 team (match) points out of 18 possible. The team from the Philippines closed the top three with 13 points. Then there are such solid national teams as Sri Lanka, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, India, Bangladesh and Malaysia.
In the individual competition, Amanmuhammet Hommadov, who played his first online tournament at the first board of our national team, also took 2nd place with 7 points out of 9 possible, losing the first place with a one-point gap to the Filipino Arca Christian Gian Carlo, who has the highest title for online chess players - "arena grandmaster" (AGM). An athlete from Indonesia closed the top three winners with 6 points.

The 17-year-old reigning national champion Lala Shohradova also took 2nd place on the second women's board. With 7.5 points, she lost only half a point to Indonesian Laisa Latifa. The third among the girls was a chess player from Iran.
This is not the first experience of Lala's successful performance at online tournaments. In June 2022, she took first place in the individual competition in the “B” category at the Queens Online World Chess Festival. And the women's national team of Turkmenistan then took 3rd place in the world in the team competition.
