China daily: The 4th UN World Data Forum has started in China
25.04.2023 | 12:52 |The 4th UN World Data Forum has started in the city of Hangzhou in eastern China, China Daily reports.
The Forum, which is attended by delegates from more than 100 countries, is aimed at stimulating cooperation between global data producers and users, finding ways to ensure fair and open access to information.
Under the slogan "Towards data that Empowers our world", the event is dedicated to four main areas, including innovation and collaboration in the field of data, research on the value of data, increasing its reliability and building a reliable data ecology.
"Today, in the XXI century, data has the same value as oil had in the previous century, that is, they are the driving force of development and progress. This forum is a key opportunity to give impetus to the transformative power of data and accelerate progress at this critical moment," UN Secretary—General Antonio Guterres stressed in his welcoming message to the forum participants.
In 2020, the UN established one of the four regional big data centers in Zhejiang Province. Last year, another UN institute was founded in the province — the Global Center for Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation.
"China will work with other countries to help implement the 2030 Agenda through data management, and will support open, mutually beneficial international cooperation in the field of data and contribute to the overall development and progress of all countries," Chinese President Xi Jinping said in a congratulatory letter to the forum participants.
The forum, which is also organized by the National Bureau of Statistics of China and the Government of Zhejiang Province, will last until Thursday.
