Indian President Murmu flew a fighter jet

Indian President Draupadi Murmu flew a Su-30 MKI fighter jet from Tezpur Air Base in Assam on Saturday. The flight lasted 30 minutes. She examined the Himalayas from the plane, RIA Novosti reports, citing information from the secretariat of the head of state.

Head of India Murmu is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces. She became the second female president in the world to fly a Su-30MKI. The first flight was inscribed in the history of aeronautics by Pratibha Patil, also a female head of state of India, who served as president in 2009.

The fighter was flown by Indian Air Force Captain Naveen Kumar. "The plane was flying at an altitude of about two kilometers above sea level and at a speed of about 800 kilometers per hour," the administration said.

In India, the Su-30MKI fighter is manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited under a Russian license. The Indian Air Force currently has approximately 270 of these vehicles in service.
