Kyrgyzstan is working on a new trade route through the Turkmenbashi seaport

Kyrgyzstan is working on an additional route in the direction of Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Russia to optimize routes and develop trade. This is reported by the portal Rhythm of Eurasia with reference to the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the republic.

The route will start at the International Seaport of the city of Turkmenbashi in the Caspian Sea and then head to the ports of Astrakhan and Makhachkala.

Earlier, representatives of the public and private sectors of Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan visited Astrakhan and got acquainted with the activities of the ports of the region, in particular — JSC "Astrakhan Seaport", PJSC "Astrakhan Port", JSC SC "Armada". The delegates also discussed the implementation of multimodal cargo transportation using the ports of the Caspian Sea.

Then Kyrgyzstan expressed its readiness to provide a daily flow of 40 cars. In the future, up to 150-200 cars can move along this route. But, as the Kyrgyz side stated, in order to carry out regular transportation, it is necessary to provide a sufficient number of ferries.

In this regard, the Association of Carriers of Kyrgyzstan announced its readiness to act as a ferry rental operator. An official request on the terms of the ferry lease has been sent to the Government of the Astrakhan region.

"Goods from Russia and back go directly through Kazakhstan, but tariff policy and procedural issues are very important here. It often happens that the closest way, for various reasons, costs cargo carriers much more, and the goods take longer than we would like," commented Temir Sariev, head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kyrgyzstan.
