India to bid to host 2036 Summer Olympics
02.01.2023 | 02:43 |India's Youth and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said India will formally bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympics this year.
“I am sure that the government will be able to take part in holding the Olympic Games in the country together with the Indian Olympic Association. I believe that India will fully prepare and apply for participation in the Olympics. If India is putting so much effort into the development of sports, I can assure you that we will not only be able to host the Olympic Games, but also hold them in a big way. India is considering participating in the 2036 Olympics very seriously,” Thakur was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
The minister also noted that the city of Ahmedabad, located in the state of Gujarat, is nominated as the venue for the Olympic Games. India has previously hosted the 1982 Asian Games and the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
In addition to India, Indonesia, Mexico, South Korea, Egypt and the United Kingdom are contenders for hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics.
The previous Summer Olympic Games were held in 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. Initially, they were supposed to take place in 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, they took place a year later.
As a result of the Games, the United States became the leader of the team standings. In second place is China, the first three are closed by the hosts of the tournament - the Japanese.
In 2024, the Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris (France), in 2028 the Olympics will be hosted by Los Angeles (USA), and in 2032 Brisbane (Australia) will become the host of the tournament.
