 Presidential election campaign begins in Turkmenistan

On Monday, the election campaign for the election of the President of the country started in Turkmenistan. Within its framework, the nomination of candidates, their registration, meetings with voters and other events will take place.

Preparations for the election campaign were discussed at a meeting of the Central Election Commission on Sunday, the official Turkmen press writes today. During the meeting, a calendar plan of events to prepare for the elections was approved.

The upcoming campaign will be followed by both national observers representing public organizations and political parties, as well as international experts and observers.

Early presidential elections in Turkmenistan will be held in accordance with Article 81 of the Statement, as well as Article 86 of the Electoral Code, which concerns the holding of early elections.

At Friday's meeting of the People's Council (Halk Maslakhaty), President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced that at the new stage of Turkmenistan's development, it is necessary to open the way to government for young leaders.

The head of state himself decided to use his life and political experience as chairman of the People's Council. Members of the People's Council supported the decision of the Turkmen leader, after which Berdimuhamedov instructed the chairman of the CEC to carry out the relevant work within the framework of the norms of the Constitution and current legislation.

Presidential elections in Turkmenistan are scheduled on March 12, 2022. On February 12, the Parliament of Turkmenistan adopted a resolution on this in accordance with Article 81 of the Constitution.
