Turkmenistan doubled the gas exports to Russia in 2021

In 2021, Turkmenistan supplied about 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Russia, which is twice the level of supplies in 2020. The Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Alexander Blokhin announced such provisional figures at a briefing for Turkmen journalists.

There is also a possibility of an increase in purchases of Turkmen natural gas next year, but that is a matter for Gazprom and its future plans, according to the Russian Ambassador.

Speaking about perspectives, the supply of Turkmen gas to Europe via the Caspian Sea, Blokhin emphasized that this is a rather complex and resource-intensive task, which should not be considered as an end in itself.

In addition, the ambassador noted, that Ashgabat has significant opportunities to diversify the supply of natural gas even without the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline. The construction of the gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) on $33 billion cubic meters is actively underway, the option of increasing gas supplies to China to 60 billion cubic meters is being considered.

Blokhin expressed confidence that the implementation of these projects will seriously increase the supply of Turkmen “blue fuel”.
