Turkmenistan takes measures to protect against import of omicron-strain
22.12.2021 | 06:08 |On Tuesday, the President of Turkmenistan held a meeting on protection against the importation of a new strain of the omicron coronavirus into the country. The meeting was attended by Secretary of the State Security Council, Deputy Chairman of the State Commission for Emergency Situations Chary Amanova, Chairman of the State Customs Service Maksat Khudaykulyev and Head of the State Migration Service Nazar Atagaraev.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at the meeting that thanks to the timely adopted comprehensive measures to prevent the incidence of coronavirus, vaccinate the population, no cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Turkmenistan.
But we must not relax, the president said, because new strains of this virus, including omicron, are being recorded in many countries. Its rapid spread in the world is associated with the crossing of borders by people and goods.
In this regard, the meeting raised questions about what protective measures are being taken in Turkmenistan, both for passengers arriving from abroad and when importing goods, including food.
The heads of the migration and customs services reported on the state of affairs in this aspect and measures to prevent the penetration of the virus. The Secretary of the Security Council, Deputy Chairman of the State Commission for Emergency Situations also reported on the work being done to prevent the import of dangerous infections, in particular, the omicron strain.
The head of state instructed Amanov to monitor the supply of the trading network with everyday food products with the structures responsible in this area. The chairman of the customs service was instructed on the need for strict control over the quality and safety of imported food, compliance with the established sanitary protocol of customs operations. The leadership of the migration department was given the task to ensure the unhindered transportation of food supplies between the regions and the capital in accordance with the requirements adopted by the Extraordinary Commission for Combating the Spread of Diseases.
