Sergey Lavrov was born in Moscow. In school years he was fond of physics, but he entered the eastern department of MGIMO. In Soviet times, he worked at the embassy in Sri Lanka, as well as in the permanent mission of the USSR to the UN.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia's foreign policy activity takes place with the active participation of Sergey Lavrov. Already in 1992, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and since 1994, for ten years, he headed the Permanent Mission of Russia to the UN, after which he was appointed head of the Foreign Ministry.
Sergey Lavrov is traditionally included in the popular ratings of the most recognizable and popular statesmen of Russia. It is known that the minister is a football fan and supports the Moscow Spartak.
He is a fan of Russian poetry - he loves the poems of Vladimir Vysotsky, Sergey Yesenin and Alexander Blok, and also writes himself. In particular, the MGIMO anthem was written specifically by Sergey Lavrov.
Lavrov is a frequent visitor to Turkmenistan, and, in one of his conversations with his Turkmen counterpart, he said that he greatly appreciated the attention that the president of Turkmenistan has given to relations with Russia.
Also, Sergey Lavrov, after one of the meetings with Berdimuhamedov, emphasized: “Today, the two countries are linked not only by the centuries-old traditions of friendship and good neighborliness, but also by building a long-term strategic partnership based on the principles of equality, trust and mutual respect.”
