The Turkmenbashi Seaport as a transit hub for Central Asian exports is the topic of the round table, which will be held on Wednesday, February 14, in an online format with the participation of exporting companies and shippers, forwarders and carriers, logistics providers of Central Asian countries.
The discussions will be attended by representatives of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, in particular from the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi and Turkmen Railways, JSC Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan, as well as the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission, industry regional associations.
The round table is organized by the Turkmen Logistics Association/TLA on the Microsoft Teams platform with the support of the USAID Trade Program in Central Asia, according to the TLA website. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about the services provided by the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi, increase transit traffic through the port of Turkmenbashi, familiarize participants with alternative cargo transportation routes, which will expand trade relations between Central Asian countries towards other countries. The round table program consists of discussing practical transportation issues, including transportation through the Turkmenbashi seaport, transportation schedules and rates, forwarding and logistics services, paperwork, transit procedures, etc.
This meeting will be the first in the plan of joint activities for 2024, which the Turkmen Logistics Association and the Turkmenbashi International Seaport signed in a package with a Memorandum of Understanding defining key areas of cooperation to strengthen the position of the Turkmen port in the global transport and logistics system.
Thus, the parties agreed on the implementation of joint measures to inform the international partners of the Turkmen Logistics Association about the technical and technological potential of the port, benefits and opportunities created at the port, and to attract foreign carriers.
Turkmen Logistics and the port of Turkmenbashi have agreed to regularly exchange experiences and hold consultations with transport and logistics enterprises that are part of the Association in order to create favorable conditions for Turkmen cargo carriers. This will make it possible to combine the efforts of the public and private sectors to ensure efficient cargo transportation through the port.
The plan of joint events provides for holding conferences, business forums, webinars and round tables dedicated to the transit opportunities of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport. These events will be attended by the heads of large transport and logistics organizations and enterprises from the Central Asian region, the Russian Federation, China, Georgia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, India, Iran and South Korea.
It is also planned to organize study visits for interested representatives of international companies and Turkmen carriers to cargo terminals and other infrastructure facilities of the port. It is planned to conduct online trainings for employees of the Turkmenbashi port with the participation of international experts.
