The first regular cargo ship for container cargo transportation is planned to be launched between Turkmenbashi and Makhachkala by the end of 2023. This was reported to TASS on Thursday by the trade representative of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan, Alexander Elizarov, after a meeting with the state authorities of Dagestan in Makhachkala.
"Now there is an opportunity and the issue of placing the first container ship on the Turkmenbashi - Makhachkala line is being considered not as the only way, but as a regular communication <...>. We have set a task for businessmen before the end of the year so that the ship goes," Elizarov said.
According to him, the last ferry service between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Makhachkala existed in 2011-2012.
During the visit to the region, the trade representative met with the Chairman of the Government of Dagestan Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov, who noted that the trade turnover between the Republic of Dagestan and Turkmenistan in 2022 increased by 5% compared to 2021, and imports - by 80%.
