The Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Central Asia, Ashita Mittal, visited the Artyk customs checkpoint located on the Turkmen-Iranian border. This is reported on the website of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.
Highly appreciating the infrastructure and technical security of the customs post, the guest noted that it plays an important role for the development of cargoes transportation and trade between the countries of the Persian Gulf and Central Asia, and also makes a great contribution to the fight against drug trafficking at the border.
Touching upon the prospects for further cooperation, the parties discussed the possibility of creating interactive classrooms and situation centers for use by employees of the customs and border services of Turkmenistan.
Ashita Mittal arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in a regional training on combating illicit drug trafficking and new psychoactive substances, which was conducted by the OSCE Center jointly with UNODC.
