Composer Alexander Zatsepin celebrates his 100th anniversary at the Bolshoi Theatre
A grand concert titled “The Century of Zatsepin” was held on the historic stage of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow to mark the 100th anniversary of People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Zatsepin. The festive evening brought together leading actors, opera stars, and pop performers who honored the maestro and his invaluable contribution to world culture, according to TASS.
Over decades of creative work, Alexander Zatsepin has composed more than 300 musical pieces. His music for films by director Leonid Gaidai — The Diamond Arm, Ivan Vasilievich Changes Profession, and Kidnapping, Caucasian Style — has become an integral part of the cultural memory of several generations. The jubilarian himself admitted that each of his works is like a child to him, though he feels especially attached to the composition “Sea shore” from the film The Red Tent.
The gala concert featured performances by Konstantin Khabensky, Yevgeny Mironov, Yulia Peresild, Dima Bilan and other well-known artists. Legendary melodies were performed by the All-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yuri Bashmet. The event was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
Despite reaching the milestone of a century, Alexander Zatsepin continues to work actively. In an interview, he shared ambitious plans: the composer is currently working on new musicals and a ballet. The evening at the Bolshoi Theatre became not only a reflection on his century-long journey but also an inspiring starting point for new creative ideas of the great master.
