President Serdar Berdimuhamedov Congratulates António Guterres on United Nations Day

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has extended his sincere congratulations and best wishes to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and the staff of the UN Secretariat on the occasion of United Nations Day—a day celebrated by the global community.
In his message, the Head of State emphasized that the systematic strengthening of multifaceted cooperation with the UN and its specialized agencies remains an unequivocal strategic priority in the country’s foreign policy. Turkmenistan reaffirmed its readiness to consistently expand institutional dialogue, with the aim of ensuring long-term peace, stability, and sustainable development—both within the Central Asian region and on the global stage.
United Nations Day is observed annually on October 24. It was on this date in 1945 that the UN Charter—the foundational document of the modern system of international relations—entered into force, following its ratification by a majority of the signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council. Officially proclaimed by the General Assembly in 1947, this day symbolizes the shared commitment of nations worldwide to the principles of collective security, equitable dialogue, and preventive diplomacy.
For Turkmenistan, cooperation with the United Nations is of particular, fundamental importance: it was the UN General Assembly that, in a historic resolution in December 1995, enshrined Turkmenistan’s status of permanent neutrality. Today, Ashgabat actively serves as a hub for regional entities within the community of nations—including the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia—and consistently initiates global peace-building and environmental platforms under the auspices of the United Nations.
