The Leonid Shchemelev Art Gallery presented the landmark exhibition “Under the Sky of the Homeland”. The exhibition brought together over 40 outstanding works by Vladimir Basalyga, a master of Belarusian graphics. A key feature of the project was the first-ever publication of colored drawings of architectural monuments, which had not previously been shown to the general public, according to BELTA.

These rare sheets, created with colored pencils, pastels, and ink, were made by the artist following his travels to historical sites. The exhibition allows viewers to trace the artist’s creative journey: from lively, emotional sketches to monumental autolithographs and etchings that have become classics of national art.

A special place in the exhibition is occupied by the famous series “Architectural Monuments of Belarus”. Each image was complemented by an elegant ornamental frame indicating the location and construction date of the building. Such detailed work turns the pieces into a true artistic encyclopedia of architectural achievements. Through his works, the author calls on contemporaries to preserve the beauty created by their ancestors.

Visitors can also see the series “Victims of the Spiritual Chernobyl”, which the master worked on in his final years. In these graphic sheets, Vladimir Basalyga restored the appearance of lost wooden and stone temples, carefully collecting information about them from archives.
