Solar activity in 2026: Scientists predict a series of powerful X-Class flares
The Sun is entering a period of high activity. According to astrophysicists’ forecasts, between 5 and 10 powerful X-class solar flares may occur on the Sun’s surface by the end of 2026. Intense energy releases of M and X levels are expected to be recorded regularly through 2028.
Such phenomena are classified by the power of their X-ray radiation, where each successive level represents a tenfold increase in intensity. Solar flares are often accompanied by coronal mass ejections — massive clouds of charged particles that can trigger geomagnetic storms on Earth.
Strong X-class flares can directly affect modern technologies. Temporary disruptions may occur in satellite navigation systems (GPS), high-frequency radio communications, and even power grids.
In addition to technology, solar activity can also affect people. Individuals sensitive to weather and geomagnetic changes are advised to monitor geomagnetic storm forecasts more closely during this period in order to plan physical activity and keep track of their well-being.
