Valentina Matviyenko will arrive to Ashgabat for festivities with the delegation of the Russian Federation
A delegation from Russian Federation, which will arrive to Ashgabat for the opening ceremony of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, will be headed by the Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko, the “Kommersant” newspaper reports. Matvienko's previous visit to the Turkmen capital took place at the end of 2015. 65 national teams will be represented (46 countries of Asia, 18 countries of Oceania and the representative team of refugees) in the Games “Ashgabat 2017” (September 17-27). Turkmenistan is thoroughly preparing for holding international sports competitions of such a high level. As mentioned in the media, $5 billion dollars were spent on the construction of the Olympic town, where the Games will be held. Over $2 billion dollars were allocated for the construction of a new international airport, which can accommodate over 15 million passengers a year. It was opened exactly one year before the Asian Games, on September 17, 2016.
