Turkmenistan is preparing a national exhibition for the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), which will take place in Antalya, Turkey, this November.

The country’s pavilion will showcase key achievements in environmental well-being, addressing climate-related challenges, and implementing international environmental initiatives. The preparation of the national exhibition for this international forum is being overseen by Deputy Prime Minister Nokerguly Atagulyyev, who reported on the progress of these efforts during a meeting of the Turkmen government on Saturday, October 31.

The UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) is being held in Antalya at a time when the world is grappling with the escalating consequences of the climate crisis. With the last 11 years ranking as the hottest on record, our planet stands on the brink of irreversible change. To protect both people and the planet, it is urgent to step up measures aimed at curbing emissions and enhancing resilience against climate-related threats.

Combating climate change is a key aspect of development, one that must be pursued in inseparable connection with nature conservation and land restoration. With large-scale investment, such comprehensive efforts can become a driving force for prosperity, equity, and resilience in a world currently reeling from the shocks of conflict, resource depletion, and economic crises.

This year, the COP31 conference—alongside the conferences on biodiversity (COP17) and desertification (COP17)—offers an opportunity to join forces and demonstrate how the three "Rio Conventions," through the power of multilateral cooperation, can deliver the changes necessary to safeguard the future of humanity and the planet.

Turkey’s presidency of COP31 envisions the conference as both a "conference of practical action" and a "conference of the future." It is rooted in the principles of dialogue, consensus, and concrete steps, with the primary goal of transforming climate commitments into tangible, trackable progress.

Under the leadership of Australia, which is overseeing the formal negotiation process, COP31 will aim to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement. This includes strengthening Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), developing National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), and enhancing transparency mechanisms. Discussions will focus on intensifying efforts across key areas: climate change mitigation, adaptation, addressing loss and damage, facilitating a just transition, expanding access to climate finance, building capacity, and transferring technology.

COP31 will also advance the presidency’s "Action Agenda," notably through the launch of the "Climate Implementation Bridge"—a new initiative designed to help developing nations transform the priorities outlined in their NDCs and NAPs into investment-ready projects, while effectively connecting them with sources of technical assistance, financing, and implementation partners.
