In the run-up to Cosmonautics Day on April 12, declared by the UN General Assembly as the International Day of Human Space Flight, Russian schools have replaced traditional bells with fragments of popular songs about space, such as "Grass by the House", "Beautiful Far Away", "Hope", and "Attraction of the Earth". The Russian Ministry of Education and Science considers Cosmonautics Day a good opportunity to remind schoolchildren of the great achievements of their space power. The ministry's project "Music Instead of Bells" is aimed at familiarizing students with famous musical works in the context of important historical dates, so that their study is not only useful, but also interesting.

The "Music Instead of Bells" project, which was launched in November 2024, is being implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science together with the All-Russian Center for the Development of Artistic Creativity and Humanitarian Technologies. Instead of traditional school bells, fragments of popular melodies and classical pieces are played in educational institutions. In November, instead of bells, schools played excerpts from songs by composer Alexandra Pakhmutova, in December - music from the ballet "The Nutcracker" by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, in January - fragments of songs by the International Children's Center "Artek", in February - patriotic songs, and in March - melodies dedicated to International Women's Day.

According to TASS, in addition to this, the Ministry of Education has prepared an all-Russian lesson "History of the Development of Russian Cosmonautics", and also released a thematic collection of master classes with a description of the lessons, age recommendations and methodological materials for teachers.
