The transport sector is one of the key areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union. This is evidenced by the meeting of ambassador of Turkmenistan in Belgium Sapar Polvanov with head of the European Commissioner's Cabinet for International Cooperation and International Partnership Lucy Shestakova. The main topic of discussion was the development of interaction between Turkmenistan and the European Union, as well as the connections of Central Asia and the EU, with an emphasis on the transport sphere.

The parties emphasized the strategic significance of Central Asia as a bridge between Europe and Asia. Particular attention was paid to the strengthening of transport corridors, which would expand trade relations and contribute to the economic growth of the region. The meeting also discussed the possibility of the visit of Joseph Sicel, the new European Commissioner for International Partnership, to Turkmenistan to discuss further steps to develop dialogue, where one of the main topics will be issues of transport.

In October last year, a coordination platform for transport between the EU and Central Asia was launched in Turkmenistan. This platform is the first and only mechanism of coordination of transport projects between the regions, which contributes to their integration and development of sustainable infrastructure.

The transport sphere continues to be the leading direction of interaction between the EU and Central Asia, forming the basis for strengthening regional interconnectedness and sustainable economic growth in 2025, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium emphasized.
