Races held in Japan to mark 100 days until the opening of EXPO 2025
On January 5, 2025, two 10-kilometer races took place in Osaka, marking 100 days until the opening of the World Expo EXPO 2025. The event was organized by the Osaka Athletics Association and other organizations on the Yumeshima Island, where the Expo will be held.
The first race, which started in the morning, saw around 1,600 runners from across Japan participating. Masayoshi Matsumoto, Vice Chairman of the Japanese Association "EXPO 2025", officially launched the race.
Among the participants was a 43-year-old runner from Nara, who completed the race dressed in the official mascot costume of the Expo, Myaku-Myaku. Matsumoto also commented on the slow pace of ticket sales and the varying levels of interest in the Expo across different regions of the country.
The second race took place in the afternoon.
More than 160 countries will showcase their latest achievements in innovation and technology at the EXPO 2025, which will open on April 13 and run until October 13, 2025.
The theme of the upcoming World Expo is "Designing Future Societies for Our Lives".
