Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated Hero of Turkmenistan Oleg Kononenko on the space record

National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov sent congratulations to the commander of the Roscosmos cosmonaut corps, pilot-cosmonaut, Hero of Turkmenistan Oleg Kononenko.
“On behalf of the head of state, in his person on behalf of the people of Turkmenistan and on my own behalf, I congratulate you on your great achievement - the world record for the total stay in the Earth’s space orbit,” the message said, which was read out in the news release of the Turkmen State Television and Radio.
“We in Turkmenistan are proud that our compatriot, born and raised on ancient Turkmen land, became an outstanding space explorer and reached hitherto unprecedented milestones in his noble profession. Being the first is always honorable and at the same time not easy, since leadership is, first of all, a high responsibility to society, the country, and in your case, to the world as a whole,” the congratulations say.
Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty noted that Kononenko’s space record came in the year when the 300th anniversary of the great son of the Turkmen people, philosopher, poet Magtymguly Fragi, who sang friendship and brotherhood, called for peace and unity, and emphasized the important role of science and knowledge, is celebrated. It is these ideals and values that underlie activities to study outer space and its use for peaceful purposes for the benefit of all people living on planet Earth, Chairman Khalk Maslahaty noted.
“The Turkmen people will be glad to see you, after the completion of the current space mission, in Turkmenistan to celebrate the anniversary of Magtymguly,” the message ends with this invitation, which also expresses wishes for good health, happiness and new high achievements. After the completion of Oleg Kononenko’s mission (already the fifth in his career), which is scheduled for September 23, the total time spent by the Russian cosmonaut in weightlessness will be 1110 days.
