Afghan business seeks to increase exports to Central Asia


The Afghan Ministry of Industry and Trade said that last year Afghanistan imported about $1.4 billion worth of goods from Central Asian countries and exported $100 million to the region.
In trade with Turkmenistan, the volume of imports amounted to $ 417 million, and exports - $ 1 million, TOLOnews reports, citing a representative of the ministry.
According to him, imports with Uzbekistan amounted to $ 214 million and exports to $ 19 million, with Kazakhstan - $ 189 million and $32 million, respectively, with Tajikistan - $ 20 million and $19 million in the same order. The reverse situation is only with Kyrgyzstan, from which Afghanistan imported goods worth $1 million and exported $7 million there. It is also noted that Afghanistan imported $315 million worth of products from Russia and exported $4 million worth of goods to Russia.
In general, the trade turnover amounted to 1.481 billion dollars, of which 1.38 billion were imports and 100 million were exports, the ministry said, adding that most of the Afghan exports are fresh fruits, dried fruits, juices, talc, potatoes, onions, medicinal herbs.
Afghan businessmen are aiming to increase exports to Central Asian countries and are preparing to present their products at the exhibition in Ashgabat. The Chamber of Commerce and Investment of Afghanistan reported that the exhibition in Turkmenistan will be held in less than a month.
According to the Afghan Ministry of Industry and Trade, up to two billion dollars of goods were exported from Afghanistan in 2023, with India, Pakistan, China and the United Arab Emirates accounting for the largest volume of exports.
