A resident of besieged Leningrad met with Ashgabat schoolchildren

The meeting of the Leningrad blockade runner Galina Mammedova with sixth grade students took place at the Russian House in Ashgabat. TASS told how the meeting went. The students were told about the blockade, shown a 125 g ration of bread, which was given to residents of the besieged city, and demonstrated a metronome, saying that its sounds were broadcast on the radio, and when they fell silent, it meant the beginning of the bombing. The guys also heard the sound of an alarm siren, as well as a documentary recording of Yuri Levitan's message about breaking the blockade.

Galina Alekseevna, who was born in the still besieged city in 1943, shared with schoolchildren about a recent trip to St. Petersburg, where she took part in commemorative events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the lifting of the blockade. In St. Petersburg, she was also awarded a badge of honor "In honor of the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade."

The children asked Mammedova a lot of questions about life in the besieged city, this topic aroused the children's keen interest, the correspondent of the Russian news agency noted. Then the first secretary of the Russian Embassy in Turkmenistan, Yulia Zaitseva, read out and handed the blockade runner a congratulatory address from the governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov. At the end, an excerpt from the Seventh ("Leningrad") Symphony by Dmitry Shostakovich was performed for children.

Two people who survived the siege of Leningrad live in Ashgabat: Galina Mammedova and Maria Avanesova, who was evacuated in August 1942. On Saturday, Russian diplomats presented Avanesova with a badge of honor "In honor of the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade" and a congratulatory address from the governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, the press service of the Russian Embassy in Ashgabat reported.
