Fatih Karahan heads the Central Bank of Turkey


Fatih Karahan became the head of the Central Bank of Turkey, after the previous head of the institution, Hafize Gaye Ercan, announced her resignation.
"By the decision of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Fatih Karakhan was appointed the new governor of the Central Bank," reads the text of the official print organ of the government, Resmı Gazete.
Fatih Karakhan held the position of Deputy Governor of the regulator. He graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering of Bogazici University in 2006. In 2012, Karakhan defended his master's and doctoral dissertations in economics at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2022, he began working as a senior economist at Amazon.
The decision of the previous head of the Central Bank of Turkey, Hafiz Gaye Ercan, to resign became known on February 2. She asked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to approve the request. The decision to resign Ercan is personal.
