In order to develop the country's transit potential and increase trade turnover with neighboring countries, a full-scale modernization of checkpoints on the border of Kazakhstan with the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan has begun, the press service of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.

Modernization essentially includes the construction of new checkpoints with the demolition of old infrastructure that did not meet modern requirements, Vice Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan Erzhan Birzhanov said.

Along with modernization, work is being carried out to digitalize processes and automate technical means of customs control using the latest equipment for inspection and scanning of vehicles. It is planned to centralize control of customs posts in the Main Dispatch Directorate to eliminate corruption risks.

Modernization will improve the infrastructure of checkpoints, all conditions will be created for comfortable border crossing and high-quality state control, expand from 2 to 6 lanes, increase capacity by 8 times and reduce border crossing time to 30 minutes through automation the entire cycle of movement of goods and vehicles.

We previously reported that Kazakhstan limited the passage of vehicles on the border with Turkmenistan at the Temir Baba checkpoint in connection with the start of work on modernizing the border crossing.

The construction of the new building of the Temir Baba post is planned to be completed at the end of 2024.
