Turkmen schoolchildren took silver and bronze on the first day of the Asian Chess Championship

The 17th Asian Chess Championship among schoolchildren started on July 14 in Tashkent with a rapid tournament. On the first day of the competition, Turkmen participants of the championship in the under-17 category Lala Shohradova and Amanmuhammet Hommadov won silver and bronze medals, respectively.

With 5 points out of 7 possible, a 10th grader from the Lebap region Shohradova lagged one point behind a peer from Uzbekistan Umida Omonova, who a month earlier, in Batumi (Georgia), became the world champion in the same category. Kashthuri, a chess player from India, also took the third place with 5 points, but lagged behind Lala in additional coefficients.

However, Amanmuhammed, a high school student from Ashgabat, who scored 5.5 points out of 7, was unlucky with additional coefficients. They placed him in third place, and Russian Alexander Khripachenko with the same number of points – in second. A confident victory in this category was won by Hishigbat Ulzikhishig from Mongolia with 6.5 points out of 7 possible.
Representatives of our country perform at the Asian Championship in all age categories, namely up to 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15 years.

"We should note the 4th place of 10-year-old Alikhan Batyrov from Mary among 32 players in the under-11 category. It's a bit disappointing that, being in a group of five players who finished at the very top of the standings, sharing 1-5 places with 5.5 points, Alikhan was in 4th place by an additional coefficient, and Vijerathna from Sri Lanka became the triumphant here," the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan added.
In rapid (rapid chess), each player is allocated 15 minutes for the entire game with the addition of 10 seconds for each move. On Saturday, July 15, the tournament begins with a classic time schedule, and the championship will end on July 20 with a blitz tournament.

Turkmenistan is represented in Tashkent by 12 champions – one in each age category, as well as several additional players.
For Amanmuhammed Hommadov, this medal is the first one won at international competitions in a "live" format, at a physical board, and not in an online competition. And Lala was finally able to achieve a medal, despite a lack of luck at the World Championships in Batumi a month earlier.
Her mood for the Asian Championship can be judged from the video prepared by the Chess Federation following the results of the World Championship in Georgia, where Lala took 4th place in blitz.
