The Uzbek city of Shahrisabz has officially joined the World Crafts Cities Network in the field of embroidery. The announcement was made at the closing ceremony of the International “IROQI” Embroidery Festival, where World Crafts Council President Saad Al-Qaddumi presented the official certificate to Shahrisabz Mayor Sherzod Buriyev. This was reported by Yuz.uz.

The prestigious status was granted in recognition of the unique “iroqi” technique — a traditional Uzbek embroidery art whose secrets and craftsmanship have been passed down from generation to generation in Shahrisabz.

The new status will open up broad opportunities to support local artisans and preserve centuries-old folk art. In addition, the international recognition will enhance Shahrisabz’s reputation on global tourism platforms and attract more travelers interested in the cultural and craft heritage of Uzbekistan’s regions.
