US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken convened on Friday, July 7, an online ministerial conference on the creation of a global coalition to combat synthetic drugs. The event was attended by about 60 countries and international organizations.

Blinken called on the international community, within the framework of the Global Coalition initiated by the United States, to unite efforts to prevent the illicit manufacture and trafficking of synthetic drugs, identify new trends and effectively respond to their impact on human health.

The objectives of this coalition are to strengthen international coordination and cooperation by facilitating the exchange of information, experience and best practices to better understand trends in the production, trafficking and consumption of synthetic drugs, as well as by encouraging bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation for a coordinated and effective response.

It is designed to strengthen the capacity of countries in terms of prevention, treatment, demand reduction and combating illicit trafficking in synthetic drugs, as well as facilitating the exchange of best practices, technical assistance and training of specialists in health and law enforcement.

The participants of the event discussed topical issues related to the challenges and threats of modern drug crime, and agreed to make joint efforts to effectively combat this problem.

As a result of the meeting, a Declaration was adopted, which reflects the intention of the participating countries to comprehensively and systematically respond to emerging threats in this area.
