800 delegates from 20 countries will gather the Ashgabat forum on environmental aspects of the development of the fuel and energy sector

The International Scientific Conference "Energy Prospects, New Technologies and environmental aspects of the development of hydrocarbon deposits" will be held on May 15 and will bring together more than 800 delegates from 20 countries in Ashgabat.
A forum dedicated to the topic of reducing emissions in the fuel and energy sectors and energy transition will be held at the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas. The conference will be attended by high-ranking officials of the Government of Turkmenistan, heads of national and international oil and gas companies, representatives of international organizations and research centers, and the academic community.
This conference is becoming a traditional annual event to discuss the environmental challenges faced by the oil and gas sector of Turkmenistan and strengthen cooperation between Turkmen government agencies and the international community on this global track.
The conference is intended to become a platform for discussing such key issues as prospects, new technologies and environmental aspects of field development, reduction of methane and CO2 emissions from hydrocarbon production and their monetization, environmental financing and initiatives to promote clean energy.

The holding of the conference is very timely, as Turkmenistan pays special attention to environmental issues and, in particular, the reduction of methane and associated gas emissions during the development of oil and gas fields.
At the meeting of the Government of Turkmenistan held on June 10, it was announced that work had begun on preparing a Roadmap for international cooperation to join the Global Methane Commitment.
The goal of the agreement is to limit methane emissions by 30% by 2030 compared to 2020 levels. Successful implementation of this Commitment will lead to a reduction in warming by at least 0.2 degrees Celsius by 2050.
Turkmenistan is ready to strengthen its contribution to global actions to reduce methane emissions and actively cooperate in this direction with foreign partners and international organizations. Ashgabat also took the initiative to open the UN Regional Center for Climate Technologies in Central Asia.
Turkmenistan, having embarked on the transition to a "green" economy, is striving to establish international cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy, a Roadmap for cooperation for 2022-2023 has also been adopted at the government level in this area, and a Roadmap for 2023-2024 has already been prepared.

In addition to the environmental aspect of the fuel and energy sector, the conference participants will discuss advanced technologies and know-how in the field of optimizing hydrocarbon production.
The plenary session, where authoritative and eminent speakers will discuss the current challenges of the industry and present their vision of solving problems, will also be attended by students of higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan – future specialists who will have to contribute to the promotion of the Agenda in the field of Sustainable Development for the period up to 2030 in the fight against climate change.
The meetings and panel discussions of the conference will be attended by representatives of the UN, OSCE, Asian Development Bank, diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan, such companies as Climate Compass, LLC, Tetra Tech Inc, GHGSat Inc, Carbon Limits AS, Dragon Oil, LLC MIP "NES Profexpert", Chevron, Baker Hughes, PETRONAS Carigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn Bhd, Yug-Neftegaz Private Limited, the International Methane Emission Observatory and many others.
The conference will be held in both traditional and online formats, including the organization of meetings with the leadership of the oil and gas sector of Turkmenistan.
