Leopards was recorded in the Caucasus for the first time in 70 years
Already twice in one year in North Ossetia, video cameras recorded the appearance of a leopard, which was believed to have disappeared in the North Caucasus about 70 years ago.
Equipment recorded how the predator proceeded along the slope of the mountain, where the hydro technical structure is located. Obviously, the leopard considered the man-made object to be natural.
In Russia, they were concerned about the return of leopards to the Caucasus in 2006 and adopted a special Program for this purpose. According to the document, in Sochi National Park a group of predators was gathered, the adapted offspring of which were supposed to be released into the reserve of the region.
Two male leopards from Turkmenistan were the first, who were “settled” here in 2009. The following year, two female leopards from neighboring Iran were “settled” in the park. And in 2012, the “married couple” was delivered from the Lisbon zoo. Efforts were not in vain and from 2013 to 2016, 14 kittens of leopards were born in the reserve.
