The Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi reaffirmed on Monday his country's firm commitment to the earlier implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project, the Pakistani media reported. The project holds a huge potential for meeting Pakistan’s energy needs, the head of government said during a visit of the Ambassador of Turkmenistan Atajan Movlamov, took place this week. According to the Prime Minister, today there are significant opportunities for achieving the optimal level of economic cooperation between Pakistan and Turkmenistan. The trade, investment, air and land communications, tourism and cultural exchange between the peoples of the two countries have been highlighted as promising areas. The TAPI pipeline, the construction of which is ongoing in Turkmenistan, will reach the border of neighboring Afghanistan in Herat by January of next year, the Afghan agency TOLO News says referring to the statement of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum. The ministry's spokesman Abdul Qadeer Mufti told as soon as the pipeline segment from Turkmenistan will achieve Herat, the Afghan side to settle such tasks as technical ground and air surveys, clearing from mines of the pipeline route. Transit on the long-awaited gas main will bring the Afghan budget an additional $ 500 million. Moreover, TAPI will supply about 1.5 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas to Afghanistan and it will feed the iron mine in Hajigak and the Mes Ainak copper mine.
