President of Turkmenistan to participate in Sochi CIS summit
On 11 October, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov will attend a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which will be held in Sochi, Russia. The Concept of the foreign policy of Turkmenistan for 2017-2023 provides for the enhancement of political, economic and cultural ties with a number of international organizations and structures, including the CIS, is given special importance. As the Turkmen leader noted at the September meeting with the Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev, neutral Turkmenistan, being an associated member of the CIS, pursues a line of broad interaction with the CIS countries and intends to actively promote the strengthening of economic, cultural and humanitarian ties in this space, both in bilateral and in multilateral format. The president of host-country – Russian Federation, as well as heads of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will participate in the summit. Kyrgyzstan will be represented by the Prime Minister. The leaders of the CIS nations will take up the issues of current cooperation and will outline plans for future interaction in the political, economic and humanitarian fields. As the Executive Committee informs, the agenda of the summit includes discussion of the chairmanship, as well as the hosting of the next summit talks of the Council of Heads of State. A number of Russian media say the Sochi summit would end up with the signing of a solid package of 19 documents of an integration orientation. The meeting of the leaders of the Commonwealth countries has been preceded by a meeting of the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers held today (October 10). The foreign ministers exchanged views on the international agenda and considered a range of issues on further deepening cooperation in the CIS space.
