Kabul prepares for Silk Road Mayors Forum
On 20 October 2017, Kabul will host 12th Silk Road Mayors Forum. The meeting will be inaugurated by the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani.
The decision to hold the forum in Kabul was made by the World Citizens Organization at the last year's event in Iran's Qazvin.
The capital of Afghanistan, considered one of the heirs of the Silk Road civilization, will gather the heads of city administrations, diplomats, officials, businessmen from countries along the route of the ancient trade artery.
The agenda of the meeting includes issues of economic, diplomatic and cultural relations. The event will become a ground for sharing experience in the field of municipal management and urban planning.
Besides, the ways of expanding the tourist interaction and the prospects for partnership between the business community will be discussed.
Kabul plans to present guests with business opportunities and to familiarize with the economic situation in the country. According to “The Diplomat”, over the past 15 years, the government has actually invested between US$ 25-30 billion in industries such as agriculture, mining, manufacturing, services, construction and energy. In these areas, the South Asian nations is ready to open the doors for international investment and cooperation.
“Afghanistan will again become a multi-faceted hub in the 21st century–for transport, energy, water and mining–for the benefit of the entire region’s economic prosperity and security”, stated President Ghani at the general debate of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.
The regional projects to a certain extent prove to the progress made by Afghanistan: the railway network of Turkmenistan has approached the Afghan borders, the construction of the TAPI transnational gas pipeline is underway, power transmission lines are being built as part of the energy project of Central Asia and South Asia.
