Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation to create a joint commission on transport
Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers Mammetkhan Chakiev reported to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on plans to create a Joint Turkmen-Russian Commission on Transport, Transit and Logistics and the formation of its Turkmen part at a meeting of the Turkmen government on Friday.
The creation of this commission within the framework of the mechanism of intergovernmental cooperation is provided for by the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2022 between the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the field of transport and transit.
This step is also dictated by the tasks of increasing the volume of bilateral and transit traffic, developing logistics links and fully utilizing the potential of the North-South corridor.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the strategic importance of the routes connecting the transport systems of Turkmenistan, the Russian Federation and the entire region, noting the importance of joint actions to increase transit traffic.
