Delegation of Russian Railways specialists to discuss new cooperation projects with Turkmen colleagues


Turkmenistan and Russia are working on the development of railway infrastructure, and Russian companies have great prospects for participating in the modernization of the Turkmen railway industry, Alexander Elizarov, trade representative of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan, said in an interview with a TASS correspondent on Friday.
He also said that a delegation of specialists from Russian Railways would arrive in the country in the near future, who would assess the necessary work on the reconstruction of Turkmen railways, as well as study the capacity of the railway sector of Turkmenistan, which has a huge transit potential.
With the growth of cargo flows, it will be necessary to modernize the existing and build a new track facilities, the construction of a modern warehouse infrastructure, including covered and refrigeration facilities. Among other long-term projects are the electrification of Turkmen railway lines and a shift away from the use of hydrocarbon fuel, the Russian trade representative noted.
Another priority area is cooperation in the field of equipment supplies. Five diesel locomotives of the Russian JSC "Transmashholding" have recently arrived in Turkmenistan. According to Elizarov, the Trade Representation is already working with the Russian company on the next contract.
