An important direction of the economic development of Turkmenistan for the next 30 years will be the support of sustainable energy. This was stated by the Acting Minister of Finance and Economy of the country Muhammetgeldi Serdarov at the international investment forum OGT-2022.

Activities to support sustainable energy will be aimed at increasing the export potential of hydrocarbon resources, including through an increase in the volume of their processing and the production of environmentally friendly end products, the head of the Turkmen Ministry of Finance said.

In accordance with the programs of long-term socio-economic development of Turkmenistan, it is planned to create new production facilities for the processing of mineral raw materials in the country. The implementation of the state investment policy will be aimed at the radical modernization of production and restructuring, the creation of a new green economy. A number of measures are envisaged to reduce emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere, especially methane.

According to the plans, by 2030 activities in the field of renewable energy sources will become a particular priority for Turkmenistan. At the same time, the protection of the environment and natural resources, the development of a green economy will be stimulated through the use of fiscal and monetary instruments, Serdarov noted.

Turkmenistan will continue to actively cooperate with international financial institutions such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and other structures that have stepped up work on the introduction of new approaches to financing investment projects, considering the environmental component and are doing a great job to stimulate the green economy.

Supporting the efforts of the international community to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Turkmenistan is moving to the use of modern, environmentally friendly, and resource-saving technologies in industry and transport. This is especially true for the oil and gas and energy industries, the Minister of Finance and Economy emphasized.

The goal of the low-carbon development of Turkmenistan is to stabilize the growth of harmful emissions, or even start reducing their volume by 2030, under favorable economic conditions. This is in line with the long-term global goal of no more than a 2-gauge increase in global mean air temperature by 2050 compared to pre-industrial times.

It is also important to note that given the wide range of environmental problems in Central Asia and the Caspian Sea region, it is necessary to intensify multilateral cooperation and begin to form effective mechanisms in this area. These goals are strategic for Turkmenistan, Serdarov said.
