Malaysia Showcases Premier Higher Education Opportunities To Turkmen Students At Major Ashgabat Exhibition

The Embassy of Malaysia in Ashgabat, in partnership with So Pandai Sdn Bhd and several of Malaysia’s top universities, today launched the Malaysian Education Pavilion at the International Exhibition and Scientific Conference.
The three-day event, themed “Healthcare, Education, and Sports in the Renaissance Era of a New Epoch of a Powerful State,” runs from Oct. 10–12, 2026, at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.

The pavilion aims to position Malaysia as a top-tier, internationally recognized global education hub for students from Turkmenistan. This promotional push directly follows the recent Malaysia-Central Asia Higher Education Forum (MAHEF 2026) held in Astana, Kazakhstan. At that regional forum, Malaysia's Minister of Higher Education, Y.B. Dato' Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, championed a five-pillar knowledge partnership to deepen academic ties, research collaborations, and student mobility between Malaysia and Central Asian nations.

Representatives from nine (9) leading Malaysian institutions are on-site in Ashgabat to execute this vision, providing detailed guidance on academic programs, tuition fees, scholarships, admissions, and career paths. The participating institutions include:
• Sunway Education Group
• Taylor’s University
• International Medical University (IMU)
• Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP)
• INTI International University & Colleges
• Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU)
• Management and Science University (MSU)
• Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus
• Monash University Malaysia

This delegation offers a comprehensive look at Malaysia’s robust higher education ecosystem, spanning engineering, information technology, business, management, medicine, and health sciences. Beyond student recruitment, the exhibition allows Malaysian universities to build strategic institutional networks with Turkmen counterparts, matching the Minister's directive to expand transnational education and digital skills across the region.

"According to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), as of 31 August 2026, 634 Turkmen students are currently enrolled in Malaysian higher institutions. We hope to welcome an increasing number of Turkmen students to Malaysia to pursue their undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees," said H.E. Mohd Suhaimi Ahmad Tajuddin, Ambassador of Malaysia to Turkmenistan, during the opening ceremony.

Ambassador Suhaimi also highlighted a key travel benefit: "The 90-day visa-free facility for Turkmen citizens offers a seamless opportunity for prospective students and their families to visit Malaysia firsthand. They can experience our multicultural environment and tour campuses before making life-changing academic decisions."

The growing influx of Turkmen students to Malaysia underscores the market's competitive edge, driven by affordable tuition fees, world-class curricula, and an inclusive learning environment. These student exchanges continue to strengthen the cultural and people-to-people ties between both nations.
The Embassy of Malaysia in Ashgabat remains committed to fostering long-term educational partnerships and boosting student mobility between the two countries.
The public is highly encouraged to visit the Malaysian Pavilion at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan before the exhibition concludes on Oct. 12, 2026.
