The Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan, together with the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva and UNECE, held on Thursday in a hybrid format a round table on the topic of transport links of the Eurasian continent. The event was held within the framework of the 84th session of the Inland Transport Committee (ITC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE),
The meeting was attended by: Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Director of the UNECE Sustainable Transport Division, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Belarus, Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan, members of the EEC collegiums for energy and infrastructure, domestic markets, informatization, information and communication technologies and others.

The dialogue participants discussed issues of transport and logistics integration, which is becoming one of the most important areas of economic growth in 2022. The importance of political assistance in creating sustainable multimodal transit corridors during the pandemic was noted.
An increase in the volume of cargo transportation between Europe and Asia was noted, which dictates the need to increase the capacity of international transport corridors, including the modernization of roads and railways, the expansion of the network of logistics centers and checkpoints, seaports, and intermodal hubs.
The development of international transport links is of particular importance for developing countries and landlocked countries, providing them with access to world markets and creating conditions for the competitiveness of their products by reducing the cost of exporting and importing goods and services.

Speaking at the meeting, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva Atageldi Khaljanov noted that the long-term transport strategy of Turkmenistan is based on the maximum use of geographical advantages, logistical and infrastructural opportunities to create transport hubs of regional and continental importance in the country.
In this aspect, Turkmenistan and its partners are implementing a number of major international projects in the region, including the development of trade and economic cooperation between the countries of Central Asia, the Near and Middle East with the formation of a corridor, which will allow the trade flows of the Central Asian countries to reach the ports of the Persian and Oman Gulfs by the best route.
Currently, Turkmenistan is also working on strengthening cooperation with the World Trade Organization and will purposefully and comprehensively study the experience of participation in it of countries with similar economic indicators.
