Turkmenistan to take part in a meeting on development of the Southern Gas Corridor
Turkmenistan will take part in the 7th ministerial meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council, held in Baku via videoconference.
EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Oliver Varhelyi, as well as high-ranking representatives of the US, UK, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey, Greece and others, are expected to attend the meeting of the Advisory Council this year. The representatives of the World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank, Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and other international financial institutions will also attend the event.
Ashgabat, as a rule, participates in all meetings on the Southern Gas Corridor. Experts believe that Turkmenistan is a potential supplier of natural gas to the European energy market via the Southern Gas Corridor. After recent signing of a Memorandum between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan on the joint development of the Dostluk oil and gas field in the Caspian Sea, it became more topical issue. The agreement has gave cause for a number of energy market experts across the world to think that the joint Turkmen-Azerbaijani development of the Caspian field is the first stage in the implementation of the project to deliver Turkmen gas to Europe via the territory of Azerbaijan.
