The Society of Turkmen culture "Mekan" marked Victory Day in St.-Petersburg

Turkmen nationals, who live in St.-Petersburg, took part in celebration of the 75th anniversary of Great Victory. Members of the Society of Turkmen culture "Mekan" in St.-Petersburg laid flowers and wreaths to the memorable plaque at the Piskarevsky memorial cemetery, devoted to the heroes-Turkmen nationals who fell in fights of the Great Patriotic War on the Leningrad, Volkhov and Karelian fronts.
The history of our compatriots who participated in military operations on all fronts, far from their native land struggling for its well-being and bright future, invariably evokes respect and pride. Therefore, to the memorial plaque at the Piskarevsky cemetery thousands of Turkmen nationals - as a part of official delegations, student's associations, and also tourists and permanent residents living in the northern capital of the Russian Federation of Turkmenistan annually come to pay their respect.
Members of the Society of Turkmen culture "Mekan" also annually participate in the action «Immortal regiment» as a part of a multinational battalion. This year because of the pandemic a contribution of Turkmenistan to the common victory and memory of the soldiers-heroes who fell in fights on the Leningrad, Volkhov and Karelian fronts, was immortalized at the society.
- This action urged not only to promote preservation of memory of an invaluable feat of our compatriots, but also to strengthen historical links of Turkmenistan and Leningrad - St.-Petersburg in the hearts of the rising generation. For the majority of young men sad pages of military years see the remote past, they almost have not found in live veterans. Preservation of link between times, generations and people is our sacred debt. And simultaneously it is our everyday work, as representatives of "Mekan" mark.
Governor of St.-Petersburg Alexander Beglov spoke about it also during his official visit to Ashgabat.
The Society of Turkmen culture "Mekan" actively involves compatriots in representation of culture and traditions on squares of St.-Petersburg. So, besides participation in festivals on the occasion of Victory Day, members of the Society organize presentations, exhibitions and festivals.
