Line D of Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline being reactivated
President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov said Monday that two possible routes are being considered for the fourth line (Line D) of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline. He was addressing a press conference jointly with President Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan. The Turkmen president said that Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan-China, and Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan-China routes are under consideration. Berdymuhamedov said that the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan-China stands route stands as the first option. The fourth line with throughput capacity of 25 bcm (billion cubic meters) will bring the total capacity of Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline system (existing three lines plus this fourth line) to 65 bcm. In addition to creating diversification of routes for gas delivery to China, it will be helpful in meeting the energy needs of the transit countries i.e. Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
