Scientists found an unprecedented creature in Eastern Turkmenistan
Scientists have discovered in the remote cave of East Turkmenistan an unprecedented inhabitant - adapted to cave life and representative of a new species of science. This is reported by the magazine Subterranean Biology (Underground Biology).
Caves in this region of the country are very unusual and, at times, their inhabitants are also unusual. But in one form or another there is life in them. A new species, discovered by scientists, is an insect-like creature, several millimeters long.
The naturalists called it "Turkmenkampa mirabilis", where the name of the genus "Turkmenkampa" refers to the country of origin, and "mirabilis" means "unusual, amazing" in Latin.
An entomologist from the University of Alcala (Spain), Alberto Sendra, who made the discovery, believes that this is a very unusual fact, and the new amazing organism has undergone a long evolutionary path to be able to survive in unusual conditions of underground life in the Central Asian region.
The first question the scientists are looking for to answer is: how did the hygrophilous creatures manage?
After such an opening, the primary plans of naturalists include the search for such creatures in other cave regions of Turkmenistan, as well as in neighboring countries - Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
