Turkmenistan to put into operation the Caspian port hub in May

The completely modernized international seaport in Turkmenbashi will be put into operation in the first ten-days period of May 2018.
It was announced by President Berdymuhamedov during his remarks on Friday at ground-breaking ceremony of the transnational energy and transport-communication projects in Serhetabat district of Mary province.
The commissioning of the radically renovated Caspian harbor will be another continental event on the agenda pursued by the country under the motto "Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road" and aimed at reviving this ancient route in a new capacity.
The seaport in Turkmenbashi, founded at the end of the 19th century, underwent several reconstructions at different stages of its operation. However, the most grandiose and deepest upgrade was launched in August 2013. A state-of-the-art port complex with almost 4-kilomer berthage, occupies the area of 1.4 million square meters and complies with the world ecological standards of Green port.
Under the investment project worth over US $ 2 billion, realized by the Turkish contractor "Gap Inşaat", ferry, passenger, container, loading terminals, terminals for bulk cargo and polypropylene, as well as shipbuilding and ship-repair plants were built.
The multimodality of the port has also increased due to the enhancement of coastal transport infrastructure replenished by the roads with a length of about 3 kilometers and 30-km lengthy railways.
International seaport of Turkmenbashi, designed to handle 17-18 million tons of cargo per year, will diversify the ways of cargo transportation between the countries of Asia, Caucasus and Europe and optimizes transport flows in the Eurasian space.
