A film about the legendary Queen of Massagets, Tomyris, is being shot


The cinematographers of Kazakhstan are working on realization of an ambitious historical film project. Kazakhfilm Studio jointly with Satayfilm movie company began work on the historical drama on the Queen of Massagets, Tomyris (VI century BC). Shooting will start in March this year, kapital.kz reports.
As the General Producer of the movie, Aliya Nazarbayeva, said in an interview with journalists, this is the largest historical project in the history of Kazakh movie industry.
According to her, the filmmakers have treated this project with special responsibility. They expect to make this movie interesting for the wide audience and at the same time reflecting the millennial traditions, culture and spirit of the Great Steppe.
A number of statistical facts give an idea about the scale of the project. Thus, the actors casting conducted in 15 major cities of Kazakhstan. Over 15,000 people have applied for casting. 1,500 people applied for the main role of Queen of Tomyris. Among 200 shortlisted applicants debutante Almira Tursyn was approved.
For those who consider the life of filmmakers to be light and cheerful, we inform, that at present the main actors are working hard in the training camp. Here the actors will be trained in horse riding, archery and many other military skills, which were necessary at those times.
The Queen of Massagets, Tomyris (in Turkic Tumar), who devoted her whole life to the struggle with the conquerors, is a symbol of love for her Motherland and freedom. This historical person enjoys great respect among the peoples of Central Asia, including the Turkmen, because the ancient inhabitants of our region - the Massagetae, the Dakha and the Saka – are the ancestors of all modern Central Asian peoples.
There are a number of theater performances devoted to the Queen Tomyris in Turkmenistan. Turkmen artists portrayed the legendary woman-warrior in scenic and sculptural works. The most famous works dedicated to Queen Tomyris are the picture made by the national artist of Turkmenistan Chary Amangeldyev and the sculpture made by Klych Yarmammedov.
